About the Refuge

The refuge was established in 1886 just next to the historical Jaffa Gate, and is about 2 acres. Although led by Catholic faith, the facility has always welcomed everyone--regardless of their nationality, religion or social status. The commitment to help those most in need has evolved through the years, aiming to meet societal needs.

The facility welcomes children from 0-6 years old. Some are children whose families are in a social exclusion situation that have no where to go. Others are children of poor immigrants and refugees who work during the day and leave their children in the Sisters' care. The goal is to give them a better chance at breaking the poverty cycle and creating a better life for their families.

There is also a shelter for girls from 6-18+ years old, whose families are in an extreme situation of social exclusion (drugs, prison, prostitution, etc.) and provide a safe haven for them.
